A baby crib is one. Infants sleep for most of their first year of life and the crib is where they spend that time. To steer clear of dangerous accidents, it is essential to ensure that your child's crib meets all the security requirements.
The slats in toddlers keep infants from falling or rolling from the crib. Ensure that each of the slats on your own crib are in the correct location and are tightly fit set up. The space between neighboring slats have to be no longer than 2.375 inches. A crib which has a bigger gap between the slats is harmful, because a baby's small body or head can become trapped in between. Another thing to look for is the difference between the crib and the mattress. Ensure that mattress is firm and tightly fitting within the crib, and that you cannot squeeze more than 1 finger at the gap. Again, if the gap is too big, the infant can get trapped in between the mattress and the crib wall. A soft mattress increases the chances of suffocation, as is it a loose matching sheet or a blanket. It's best to cover the baby in a sleeper rather than a blanket. Also ensure that the corner posts are flush with the corners of the crib, so the infant cannot get clothing entangled inside.
To avoid substances, use an organic mattress, organic sheets and blankets in your baby's crib. If the crib is older, it is best to strip the paint away as it might contain lead.
Some elderly cribs have ornamental openings on the side. These openings are absolutely dangerous and must be prevented, because the baby's head can get trapped. For the same reason, prevent linking toys into the crib with strings. Never place the crib near drapes or blinds. The cords in blinds pose a substantial danger, as do curtains which may suffocate the baby. Make sure that the crib side stays firmly in position when latched. Also check regularly for loose screws or components.
The use of older cribs is not recommended. But some people may receive an antique crib that's been in the household for many years, making it a valued commodity. In such scenarios, you are better off using such a crib for ornamental purposes. If you choose to utilize the crib for your baby, you need to thoroughly assess it and rule out any broken or missing components. If any hardware or parts are missing, the crib might come apart or fall down if your baby is in it.
